Amandari
Aman's original Bali sanctuary — thirty suites designed as a Balinese village on the lip of the Ayung River Gorge.
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Inside Amandari
Opened in 1989 as one of Aman's first properties, Amandari was designed to feel like a Balinese village — thirty thatched-roof suites arranged around a central shrine, with views over the Ayung River Gorge and the terraced rice fields of Ubud. The design has been copied endlessly; the original remains incomparable.
Privacy is structural: each suite is walled, with its own courtyard and plunge pool. The spa occupies an ancient banyan grove. Amandari's location — above the gorge, at the edge of Ubud's forest — means that gibbons wake you in the morning, not traffic.
Signature experiences
- Sunrise yoga on a cantilevered platform above the Ayung Gorge
- Private cooking class with a Balinese chef in the village kitchen
- White-water rafting through the Ayung River gorge below
- Guided Ubud market and temple walk at first light
