Inside Umaid Bhawan Palace

One of the largest private residences in the world, Umaid Bhawan Palace was built between 1928 and 1943 on Chittar Hill above Jodhpur. The Maharaja of Jodhpur and his family still live in part of the palace; the rest operates as a hotel and museum.

The Art Deco interiors — by Polish designer Stefan Norblin — are unlike anything else in Rajasthan's palace circuit, all geometric murals and period furniture. The museum wing houses the royal family's vintage car collection, and the infinity pool looks straight out over Jodhpur's Blue City.
